Understory Variant Gallery is operated by Understory. It lets Shopify merchants give each product variant its own ordered image gallery, and shows the right gallery on the product page when a shopper picks a variant. This policy explains what the app touches and why.
The app has no database of its own. Everything it saves lives inside your Shopify store, and it never collects anything about your customers.
To build galleries, the app reads your products, their variants and their media. When you choose images, it saves your selections as app-owned metafields on each variant: the gallery order, any market-specific galleries, and the variant's main image. It also saves a few settings on your store: the theme profile you picked and the list of products that have a gallery, which is used for your plan's product limit.
To help you set up your theme, the app reads your theme list and your product templates, only to check which theme you use and whether the gallery block is already added. It reads your markets so you can create market-specific galleries.
If you choose images from Shopify Files, the app lists your store's images and videos and attaches the ones you pick to the product. Files stay in Shopify; we never copy them anywhere.
The app does not request access to customers, orders or payments, and does not collect shopper profiles or shopping activity.
The theme block reads the saved galleries directly from your store and shows the right images for the selected variant. Its script runs only in the shopper's browser and sends nothing to us or anyone else. It sets no cookies.
Plans are handled by Shopify. When you choose a plan, Shopify manages the approval and payment. The app only reads which plan is active so it can apply the right product limit. We never see payment details.
Cloudflare serves the app's admin pages and this privacy page, and receives Shopify's required privacy notifications, which the app records but does not store. Shopify stores all app data. Support email is handled through Gmail. We do not sell merchant or shopper information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Your galleries stay in your store for as long as the app is installed. When you uninstall, Shopify removes the app's metafield definitions and deletes the saved values after a short period. Because we keep no copy of our own, there is nothing left on our side to delete.
